5. I have listened to your music. It really doesn’t seem to fit a specific genre for me. To me it seems a metal hybrid with ska tendancies and gothic undertones. If you had to classify to a certain genre which would you choose?
We’re an evolution of the classic school of british rock that originated with led zep and sabbath. we’re different to most other current british metal bands because we recognise punk as part of our rock heritage rather than the new wave of british metal that was happening at the same time as post punk in this country. Put it this way I’ve got a lot more records by Magazine and the Cure than Iron Maiden and Saxon. I really hate men in tights.
6. Does the band work on a goal system? If so what is the next set of goals for DSF?
Not long term. It’s more day to day. There’s too many immediate problems to solve to be gazing off into the future. As far as music we just kind of zen it rather than trying to contrive a direction. we tape everything and sees what inpsires us and we’re very conscious that we’ve got the independence to remain maverick and do whatever we want.
7. I’ve noticed via your Myspace page that your fans are of a wide range of ages. What do you think DSF has that appeals to all these different ages?
People of all ages have ears. And we’re loud enough for those who are becoming hard of hearing.
8. I know the band does alot of session work and the drummer has been awarded a Grammy for his work with Lee Scratch Perry but the band as a whole has worked with alot of different artists. Can you tell us who you have worked with and who is your favorite to collaborate with?
I’ve worked with Melanie C (Sporty Spice), Kelly Osbourne, Dave Rowntree (Blur), and Ozzy, who has to be my favourite, although that wasn’t a collaboration, more like a surreal and entertaining dream! Drew composed a sound track for a film documentary about Alan Moore who wrote ‘V for Vendetta’, ‘Promethea’ and ‘Watchmen’, to which I contributed some ethereal vocal parts, this was an honour to do as he is such an other-wordly genius. Al has drummed with various artists associated with the reggae and ska genres, most notably ‘The Selecter’.
9. Die So Fluid musically is a combination of all three members, but as I go through press, reviews and pictures it seems to me that Grog seems to hold the spotlight of the band. Was this the plan or design of DSF to have one spokesperson that stands ahead of the rest in the photographs or speaks the most about the band?
Well i explained the disadvantages of being a rock chick earlier. This balances things up because all photographers and picture editors are perverts and wanna photograph girls. I’m happy to pander to their needs if it gains the band publicity and Al would only moan if he had comb his hair and brush his teeth.
10. So alot of exciting things going on in Finland. Can you clue us into your dates and times and where we can catch you?
You can catch us in September on the 6th at On the rocks in Helsinki, 7th Henry’s Pub in Kuopio, 8th Bar 68-Jyvasklya, 9th Tuiskula – Nivala, 10th – Klubi in Tampere..
Many thanks to DSF for this awesome interview remember
