Q: How would you describe your music?
I wouldn’t. But others have called It darkpop or something similar, and I can live with that. Well our second album will be really different to the first one so people have to describe it again in future and I hope it will continue like that.
Q: There have been some recent changes in your line-up. What can you tell us about your new band members and how will this affect your band?
Our new guitarist Teemu Is probably the best guitarist I’ve ever had the pleasure to play with. He has brought many new things to our sound, but we have also introduced new things to him. We have certain records you need to be familiar with to really understand our thoughts.
Q: What was the concept behind your video “Heaven’s Map’?
There is no actual concept in it. we just gave some material we have shot in various places like NYC, Amsterdam, Riga and the director wanted to shoot me singing in some kinda cave here in Helsinki. It was quite a horrible day but I survived. During the time it was shot Iconcrash was officially pretty much only me so rest of the guys didn’t have to suffer in that cave.
Q: When you write songs do you have any hidden messages or personal feelings in the lyrics?
I can write only as myself. I just could not do it in any other way. Nude is about an relationship I was in during that period and there is a joyfull beginning and creepy end… yeah life can be cruel, but god dammit how I love to write when my life is miserable. I am almost on fire. Now the relationship stuff is done so I have been writing more about other things in life.
Q: If you had the opportunity to work with any band in the world (living or dead), who would it be and why?
The Beatles, because we have two members in this band who are very much crazy about them and would be so much fun to tell the guys that we are going to do some co-operation with that band. They would be very pleased and I would be the good guy. If Iconcrash would still be only me I would love to work with Bjork. I love her attitude and I love her art. She is amazing.
Q: Have you always been interested in becoming a musician?
When I was four years old I said I will be a musician and that was pretty much it. I have never doubt it and when I am doing something else it almost feels like I was cheating my girlfriend or something like that.
The Afghan Whigs, IAMX, Killing Joke, David Bowie, Joy Division, Katatonia, Portishead, Ben Christophers, Circle, Samhain, Cocteau Twins, Sneaker Pimps, Godflesh, New Order, The Church, Venus Outback, The Cult, Slowdive, The Cure, Napalm Death, The Misfits, Suede, Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack, Bjork, Tom Waits, Sigur Ros, Stina Nordenstam, Beherit, Depeche Mode, The Twilight Singers, The Smashing Pumpkins, Turin Brakes, Air, Tool…and of course they do influence my music.
