With the release of their sophomore album, the Finnish Prog-Rock band Day Eleven shows us what has been missing in the progressive rock genre in both Europe and the US. Their unique sound and powerful lyrics appeals to the ears of an ever-changing audience and has the drive to bring in new fans to their music. Day Eleven is a five piece group hailing from Tampere, Finland, a city with diverse musical talents and where Day Eleven has established their own niche in the music scene. The outstanding and extremely talented musicians of Day Eleven includes: Janne Aleksi Pajari – vocals, guitar; Olli Sopanen – guitar; Matti Lötjönen – guitar; Kimmo Kärkkäinen – bass; and Luca Di Giovanni – drums. On their latest album, Sleepwalkers, they have shown us that their music is something to take notice of and illustrates their growth from their debut album “Almost Over Everything”.
It has been two years since Day Eleven came out in the music scene with their debut album. Day Eleven’s sound can be explained as “90’s grunge rock scene comes at you with a unique sound containing shades of the energy of punk rock, the harmony from the darker side of pop mixed with a big, in-your-face blast of heavy guitars”. Over the past two years it has become evident that they show a definite evolution in their sound and have proven that they will continue to grow together as a band as the years continue to pass. The songs on Sleepwalkers are exactly what has been missing in the music market this year. With their in-your-face attitude and powerful lyrics they prove that they are here to entertain you and will continue to be a force to reckon with in the progressive rock scene. Whether or not you are a fan of progressive rock you will appreciate the tracks they have on their cd.
With catchy title tracks you will be enticed to take a listen to the songs and it excellently shows how well written the track is and it’s pure beauty. Each track leads well into each other and at the end of the cd you are content with what you have just heard. You never get that bored feeling and you are motivated to listen to the cd over and over again. With song titles such as “Dissonance Fading”, “Message”, and “Whenever You Say You Love Me” you are exposed to their signature style and range. Janne’s vocals are always on par with the music and keeps you right on the edge of your seat anticipating what they will come up with next.
Would I recommend this cd to other people. Yes! Why? Day Eleven illustrates to us that they are a band to be reckoned with and will continue to evolve before our own eyes. I look forward to seeing what they have to offer us in the near future and anxiously await to see them perform one day here in the States.
