  5. With the release of their long awaited EP, the Italian Rock band ARTIFEX has proven to the public that they have what it takes to captivate a new audience. Listening to their music you will definitely notice that their sound is somewhat similar to established Rock bands such as TOOL and Nine Inch Nails but Artifex proves that they are not another band out their ripping off the style of music moguls but instead have the extraordinary ability to fuse many genres together and create their own unique sound. The outstanding and extremely talented musicians of ARTIFEX include: Mircea—voice, guitars, synth & electronics; Vito Laterza—bass; and Francesco Paonessa—drums & machines.

In the spring of 2007, Artifex began their first recordings for their debut EP. They had recorded their EP in various locations ranging from: Berlin, London, Copenhagen and Stockholm. “ Artifex is a Bologna-based band founded back in 1997 by Antonio “Mircea” Olivo (voice/guitar/electronics) afterwards joined Vito Laterza (ex-Natron) on bass and Francesco Paonessa on drums. They stylistic evolution through the years has led Artifex to “reach” a personal dimension sound. The sound is an HardRock/Industrial dilated and wide where electronic parts, are fused to rock and crossover, with an approach that touches even marginally the progressive, creating a powerful and engaging music. Artifex with their own music want to recall that ‘”verve” which had the great bands of the 70’s, developing their sound in a modern key through the “balance” between analog and digital. Three CD’s self produced, Trists’97, In-Side ’01, and Artifex ’03, which gave the band the opportunity to grow-up more musically, experiment in the studio and live thanks to participation in several national festivals, key elements for success to create a dimension that would also involve the visual aspect.—quoted from Artifex bio The songs on “Suspension of Disbelief” are excellently produced and definitely prove that ARTIFEX is one of the next big things to come out of Italy. With their hard riffs and ear catching vocals you will most likely be eager to see what else this band has in store in the near future. Whether or not you are a fan of ARTIFEX, you will definitely enjoy the music and who knows you might slowly become an Artifex fan.

Suspension of Disbelief has a way of pulling you into listening to the lyrics of each song with eagerness. After listening to the EP over and over it is evident that these boys put in a lot or work on the lyrics as well as the music. You appreciate the hard work as you are slowly rocking out in your room, chair, or where ever you may be at. The lyrics from the song “Brainflush” is an excellent example of their catchy and meaningful lyrics. Here is an example “blood circulation system is the gate for your body don’t be afraid, no, it’s the sweetness honey I’m the final junction for the heaven of running
oh chemical man let me so I can start in sweetness honey.” This EP is exactly what many fans look for when it comes to excellent Rock music that draws its inspiration from genres.

Would I recommend this EP to others? Yes! Why? ARTIFEX proves that with their EP they have what it takes to captivate that hearts and respect of fans throughout the world. Through their hard work and perseverance these boys have created a kickass EP that will capture the fancy of many new fans.
